As some of you might have seen from Instagram, my class had its ‘white coat ceremony’ last Wednesday. This event marks the transition from pre-clinical, classroom based learning to clinical years in which we’ll be doing rotations in hospitals. It was a wonderful evening with some beautifully inspiring speeches by eminent doctors – and lots of food and wine!
I decided some really glossy bright red lips would be the perfect match for the occasion – timelessly sophisticated with a touch of fun 😉
To achieve this look, I layered YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture Vernis a Levres in number 9 (rouge laque) over YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipstick in number 64.
Vernis a Levres is, quite literally, a lip polish. For me, lip polishes are kind of like the grown up big sister of lip glosses. However, unlike traditional glosses, polishes aren’t sticky, instead, this product glides on with an almost balmy texture and dries a little more tacky.
The polish is highly pigmented – which is great for any one who loves a really vibrant or strong colour (never fear, they come in more natural, nude shades too!) – that combined with the glossy effect, I think, is a recipe for a winning lip colour.
In terms of staying power – this stuff is pretty great too. I put one on at 8am one day and, with only one touch up, it lasted until about 7pm that evening (granted, it was a very busy day so there were no feasts going on) – but it survived my many mini lunch snacks and tea with ease. It’s great having a product that you don’t need to touch up every 40 minutes 🙂
Extra brownie points for its lovely scent!
Overall, I really liked this product. At about 33 euro, this isn’t the cheapest of lip polishes, but I felt it was well worth the investment!
Have you used lip polish before? If so, what did you use? What did you think? Let me know in the comments section below – as usual I love hearing from you!
Have a lovely weekend ❤
